Cory earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida. He then continued his education at Stetson University College of Law, earning both his Juris Doctor and LL.M. (legal master’s degree) in Advocacy in 2016. While at Stetson, Cory was honored to be selected for the school’s National Champion Trial Team.

After passing the Florida Bar Exam, Cory began his legal career representing individuals in criminal defense and personal injury cases. As a criminal defense attorney, he represented clients facing everything from traffic infractions to allegations of first-degree murder, ensuring that every client’s constitutional rights were protected. As a personal injury attorney, he stood up for those injured by the negligence of others, fighting to secure compensation and justice for accident victims.

Cory’s career then led him to a prestigious nationwide law firm, where he represented insurance companies in personal injury and property damage disputes. Although the experience provided valuable insight into how insurance carriers operate, Cory quickly realized his passion was not in defending corporations—it was in helping people.

Motivated by that purpose, Cory shifted his focus to representing homeowners and business owners in first-party property insurance claims, including hurricane and storm damage. Since then, he has helped hundreds of Floridians challenge denied and underpaid claims and obtain the results they deserved when insurance companies failed to keep their promises.

Today, Cory has combined all of his experience to open the Law Office of Cory J. Powell, a firm dedicated to guiding Floridians through real-life legal challenges. Whether handling property insurance disputes, personal injury matters, or DUI and traffic cases, Cory prides himself on being prepared, approachable, and fiercely committed to his clients’ best interests.
